Textiles are no longer just a matter of design and look but more
and more a question of functionality. What can textiles do to help
us in our everyday lives or in more specific situations?
Textiles of the future will not be just plain cotton, wool or
silk. Instead innovative materials and electronics may be
integrated in a textile carrier to create smart textiles.
The exhibition Pretty Smart Textiles will give a glimpse into
what happens when technology meets fashion. It will show us how
artists and designers, at the intersection of fashion, art and
technology bring textiles to life using movement, light and sound.
The works will visualize the artists' and designers' views on
contemporary culture.
The exhibition will
display inter-active electronic textiles; textiles that demonstrate
how you can play a more active part in electronic networks;
wearables exploring how technology can help people perform tasks
considered to be very "human"; and textiles that sense and react to
each other, and also interact with their surroundings.
Pretty Smart Textiles invites the visitors to interact with some
of the works that respond to our physical presence.
We invite you to have a look at the future textile applications
where technology is incorporated into fabrics as invisibly and
flexibly as possible.
We hope that Pretty Smart Textiles will inspire the development
of textiles, products and design of tomorrow.
