In the textile industry of the future, innovation, technology
and development are the key words. To be at the forefront of future
textiles, future designers should know all about the many
possibilities in textile materials. This requires well-educated
design teachers with an in-depth knowledge of all the different
textiles.
In the Future Textiles Master Class we will tell you everything
you need to know to be updated on the latest developments in the
field of electronic textiles. We will give you a behind the scenes
look at the works at the Pretty Smart Textiles exhibition, we'll
show you all kinds of new materials and we will inform you on what
artists and designers are making in this field.
During the workshop you will receive a kit with materials together
with instructions on how to use them. In the afternoon you will
have the opportunity to use the kit to work on your own e-textile
sample. You will make an e-textile pressure sensor and you'll learn
how to integrate sound, movement or light in flexible
materials.
After getting some hands on experience you will have the
opportunity to discuss with your colleagues the possibilities of
movement, sound and light in autonomous design and production
processes.
Participants are not required to have knowledge of
electronics.
The Master Class will be held at TEKO on May 5th. It will
be led by Melissa Coleman and Dorith Sjardijn from the Royal
Academy of Arts in The Hague in Holland. Melissa Coleman is
e-textiles designer and software engineer and Dorith Sjardijn is a
textile designer with a specialization in textiles with light.
Participating with the Master Class is free of charge, but there
is a material fee of €45 for which you will receive a kit to
make your own e-textiles sample.
When signing up please specify if you'd like to work with sound,
movement or light.
To sign up please contact Anne-Louise Degn Hansen at aldh@viauc.dk. Registration
closes on May 1.
